Counsellor

As a Counsellor within our Therapeutic Services team, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals, families and communities across Barwon and South West Victoria. Working with people impacted by gambling-related harm, relationship challenges, trauma and significant life events, you will deliver evidence-based, inclusive and trauma-informed counselling services that align with Meli’s purpose of supporting people and strengthening communities.

As a Counsellor, you will:

  • Deliver evidence-based therapeutic counselling to individuals, couples, families and young people experiencing gambling-related harm, family and relationship issues, trauma and other significant life events.
  • Facilitate therapeutic and skills-based group programs, including psychoeducation, lived-experience programs and brief interventions within EAP services.
  • Undertake non-clinical assessments, advocacy and risk management activities, including responses aligned with MARAM and child safety frameworks.
  • Maintain accurate client records and actively participate in supervision, reflective practice, professional development and team collaboration to support high-quality service delivery.

 

Position Details

  • Flexible employment options with full‑time or part‑time hours
  • 1.0 FTE (38 hours) or 0.8 FTE (30.4 hours) per week
  • After‑hours shift required each Wednesday (10:30am–6:30pm)
  • $101,032 p/a (pro-rata for part time position) + Super + Salary Packaging

 

What We’re Looking For

We value individuals who bring dedication, empathy, and expertise to their roles. To succeed in this position, you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in counselling, psychology or related behavioural sciences with applicable registration (e.g., AHPRA, ACA, PACFA registration).
  • An understanding of and demonstrated ability to provide evidence based therapeutic approaches to counselling with a focus on working with addiction, trauma, systems theory, grief and loss, attachment theory and family violence.
  • Minimum of 1-year direct counselling experience.
  • Ability to provide comprehensive case notes, assessments, and counselling interventions.
  • Knowledge of the broader client services system, legislation, support services and organisations.
  • Well-developed written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Competent in self-management and solution focused.
