Child Safety Advisor
As Meli’s Child Safety Advisor, you will play a pivotal leadership role in strengthening child-safe practice across a diverse, community-based organisation. You will bring expert judgement, practice leadership, and a strong commitment to child-centred, trauma‑informed and culturally safe practice to ensure children and young people are safe, risks are proactively managed, and responses are consistent, compliant, and best practice. This is a senior specialist role for an experienced practitioner who thrives in complexity and is passionate about driving meaningful and sustainable improvements in child safety.
As a Child Safety Advisor, you will:
- Provide authoritative, organisation-wide advice and leadership on child safety practice, including complex risk assessment, incident response, and statutory obligations.
- Lead and support incident reviews, investigations, and practice analysis involving children and young people, translating findings into actionable improvements.
- Drive the development, embedding, and continuous improvement of high-quality, child-safe and trauma-informed practice across all programs.
- Build workforce capability through expert consultation, training, and reflective practice, strengthening a strong organisational culture of child safety and continuous learning.
Position Details
- Full time, Fixed term Position for 6 months
- 1 FTE working 38 hours per week
- $119, 350 p/a + Super + Salary Packaging
What We’re Looking For
We value individuals who bring dedication, empathy, and expertise to their roles. To succeed in this position, you will have:
- Tertiary qualification in social work, psychology, human services, child welfare, or a related discipline.
- Significant experience in child safety and incident management within complex human services environments, including assessment, response, escalation, and review of child safety concerns in line with legislative and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated practice leadership experience, including practice development, workforce capability building, or driving practice improvement in child safety.
- Advanced analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to assess complex situations, identify risk, and make sound judgements.
- Strong interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to provide authoritative advice and support practice change relating to child safety.
- Experience working with CIMS, the Reportable Conduct Scheme, or similar regulatory frameworks, and a strong understanding of trauma-informed, culturally safe, and child-centred practice.
